Da Nang, Vietnam is known for its incredible beaches… but not in January. While we loved walking on the empty sand (only a few minutes from our room), we had come to Da Nang with kids for the dragon. Da Nang’s famous dragon bridge is a weekly destination for a Friday night show of water and flame. While we were in town, we’d watch the dragon from a river cruise. But we’d also get in plenty of water play, along with incredible food, coffee, and craft beer from local restaurants throughout the neighborhood. Vietnam is home to the world’s biggest known cave systems. In fact, the world’s largest known cave, Son Doong Cave, is here… but going there is a hard trek, it’s really expensive, and you can’t bring kids under 16. Instead, Phong Nha Cave is a much more approachable, family budget alternative! ✅ Easy access: Regular boat tours leave from Phong Nha ✅ Phong Nha Cave’s affordable tours are great for families ✅ The river flows through the hills, so you’ll enter the cave via boat You’ll have an opportunity to walk through the cave, which has boardwalks for access and spotlights to help you see incredible formations. The size and scale of Phong Nha Cave feel like something out of a movie… but it’s just another cave, in just another hill, in this green, beautiful, lush part of Vietnam. Any time of year you come to Tam Cốc with kids in Vietnam, you can combine gorgeous nature, calm downtime, and small-city amenities. While the area has many natural attractions, we defined our time in Tam Coc not just by what our family of four did, but by what we skipped. Serene waters invite you to enjoy a boat ride or wander a loop path. The Tam Cốc area also has great family restaurants, a beautiful nature preserve, and, above all, a way to feel like you can relax and really take in the stunning scenery around you. Sometimes the best gift you can give your family is an amazing experience in a unique place. We gave ourselves the gift of an overnight luxury Halong Bay cruise, with Sena Cruises.
