Family digital nomad living year-end review 2024 [VIDEO]

2024 Wrap Up & 2025 Plans

Video update for our family’s year in world travel

Wondering what parents and kids can be like after they’ve been traveling full time for over a year and doing family digital nomad living on 3 continents?

Our 2024 began in Spain and ended in Japan. In between, though, we had so many highs… and a few lows.

From the places we visited in 2024 to how we managed to travel tens of thousands of miles yet only fly twice, we’ve put together a wee video for you. It’s a lookback at 2024, a peek at what we have in mind for 2025, and a few fun stats of our 2024 family travels.

Places we visited with kids around the world in 2024

Speaking of Japan, you could also say that in 2024, we visited the Pacific Ocean. To get from Seattle to Tokyo, we spent 14 nights on our very first cruise—a trans-Pacific sailing from the USA to Japan!

Loose outlines of our 2025 family travel plans

We’ll see as the year shapes up.

Perspective from 2025

Hello from Taiwan! We finished 3 months of family travel in Japan, then flew to Taipei (our first flight of 2025).

And it was not easy.

Here’s the thing: We’ve now been to Japan 3 times.

(Well, technically Aster’s only been twice, since our first trip was about a year and a half before she was born. But please don’t remind her. She still hasn’t entirely forgiven us.)

Snapshot of 3 months in Japan

Family of four with holiday lights in Fukuoka, Japan

These past 3 months have included Tokyo Disney, hanging out with other worldschooling families, filling up notebooks with stamps and stickers all over Tokyo and Kyushu, onsen soaking in Beppu, tracking down all 10 One Piece statues in Kumamoto, holiday scavenger hunts in Oita, and getting to know tonkatsu ramen in Fukuoka.

And we figured, hey, you know what? We’ve been in Japan for 3 months. By the time we leave, surely we’ll feel sated. Maybe we will feel ready to move on to somewhere else and not be in Japan for a while.

And you know what? We kinda did. After all, we’re grateful as can be that we’ve gotten to visit Japan multiple times. Plus, there are other places we’re excited to experience for the first time, such as Taiwan.

However, we love being in Japan. And it turns out that leaving Japan isn’t getting any easier.

No wonder we’re planning to go back later this year…

Taiwan and beyond in 2025

That said, we are greatly enjoying being in Taiwan. We’ll celebrate Lunar New Year here. We’ll also host our first Worldschool Pop-Up Hub in Taipei, as we continue also planning out our family digital nomad living plans for the year. Another Japan visit is likely in the works, and we’re keeping an eye on South Korea, Thailand, and the USA too.

But throughout 2025, and even if we visit again, Japan will still be in the back of our minds, and deep inside our hearts.
