Holafly Europe eSIM: Our experience during 3 weeks in the Baltics

Unlimited data, zero need to stress about details or connection

Easy choice: Holafly Unlimited eSIM for Europe (use code LEARNERS for 5% off or this link)

And there we were, just a few days into our Baltic Summer tour of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, and Jodie was running out of data. We could’ve panicked. Instead, Jodie decided it was time to try out a Holafly Europe eSIM.

After all, Jodie does the heavy lifting for our mobile data needs, from Google Maps navigation to checking Airbnb for messages from our hosts. She has much heavier data needs than I do.

Sometimes, we do just fine with a more limited data option. This time, though, with us staying 5 nights each in Riga, Vilnius, and Warsaw, then 7 nights in Gdansk, we realized we needed a different option. Instead of getting country-specific eSIMs or being more limited on our data, Jodie instead snagged this:

What made this eSIM for Europe the right choice

Instead of focusing on an amount of data, Holafly helps customers set the number of days they’re traveling in a given country or region.

Holafly eSIMs? They’re always unlimited.

In fact, Holafly gets that if you’re running over and need more time or data, they even have some wiggle room: A special 1 GB backup data gives you time every month should an unexpected situation come up. That way, you don’t get downshifted to slower speeds.

Since we’ve been traveling the world full-time with our kids since 2022, we get that Wi-Fi can be tricky in some accommodations. For example, hotels or hostels—and we’d be staying in hostels for most of our Baltic Summer—can be really spotty.

In our hostel in Riga, the Wi-Fi was pretty bad in our room. But our data was fast and reliable. In our room, Jodie usually switched to her data and saved the Wi-Fi for when we hung out in the common room.

Affordable data

Holafly eSIMs can cost a little more than other providers, but that’s because you’re getting no limits on your data—and therefore no need to stress about using too much.

A lower-priced eSIM can be a good choice if you know you’ll be sipping data, not needing lots of it. But if you do not want to worry about data use, or know you’ll be using data aplenty, Holafly’s unlimited data is worth it.

For Holafly eSIMs, a good rule of thumb is that your eSIM will cost about $3.90 USD per day.

It doesn’t matter how much data you need. It doesn’t matter if you’re in one country or visiting multiple countries in a particular region (of course, the specific numbers are always subject to change).

However, the more days you travel, your per-day cost comes down. For example, here’s what a Holafly Europe eSIM might cost (all prices in USD):

  • 7 days: $27.50 USD ($3.93/day)
  • 10 days: $36.50 USD ($3.65/day)
  • 14 days: $47.50 USD ($3.39/day)
  • 21 days: $62.90 USD ($3.00/day)
  • 28 days: $70.90 USD ($2.53/day)

As you see, the more days you’re traveling, the more your per-day cost comes down for that eSIM. That’s a big help in keeping you connected while also keeping your data affordable.

So, if you’re visiting an area for 10 days, that Holafly Europe eSIM will run you about $39 USD. A 14-day eSIM will be about $54.60 USD.

Jodie’s experience

While staying in Estonia, we realized we were going to need more data than usual for the rest of our three-week Baltic Summer tour. Instead of needing to shop around and run a bunch of comparisons across amounts of data and number of days, Jodie could just focus on how many days she needed and where we’d be traveling.

Since we were traveling across multiple countries, Jodie didn’t want to worry about getting a new eSIM each time our train or bus crossed a border. After all, we wanted to focus on enjoying our trip and soaking up new countries, not on what our phones were doing.

Once she selected her Holafly Europe eSIM, she set it up quickly and had it activated and online within a few minutes.

And then we forgot about it. Instead of wondering about how much data she was using, Jodie could keep her focus on the cobblestone streets of Riga, dumplings in Vilnius, a delightful milk bar near our rental in Warsaw, and above all, the endless pedestrian streets of old town Gdansk.

Visit log

Jodie used her Holafly Europe eSIM seamlessly across 3 countries and about 3 weeks:

  • Traveling by bus from Tallinn, Estonia, to Riga, Latvia
  • 5 nights in Riga (at a cute and quirky hostel with patchy Wi-Fi)
  • Traveling by bus from Riga, Latvia, to Vilnius, Lithuania
  • 5 nights in Vilnius (much better Wi-Fi, but we drew on our data when sightseeing, whether setting up navigation in Google Maps or ordering a rideshare via Bolt)
  • Traveling by train from Vilnius to Warsaw, Poland
  • 5 nights in Warsaw, with lots of city wanders where we needed our map app
  • Traveling by train from Warsaw to Gdansk
  • 7 nights in Gdansk, where the Wi-Fi in our rental was decent but had a weak signal in our room; however, our data worked fine, plus we were out and about daily for lots of sightseeing

And that whole time? Jodie didn’t need to worry about her data or whether she had a good connection. She could rely on her phone the way she needed to for our family of four, so we could focus on sightseeing and activities, not on whether the map would load.

Practical tips

We’ve been using eSIMs since 2022, and here are 2 things that consistently help us get our phones online quickly whenever we change countries and use a new eSIM:

Install before you fly: Use a stable Wi-Fi connection to install the eSIM on your phone. Do this no later than the night before you leave, so it’s not some lingering “oh crap I have to do this before I get on the plane” panicky task.

Activate on arrival: Once your flight lands or your transport crosses the border, activate your new Holafly eSIM and turn on data roaming. It can take a few minutes, but hopefully you won’t sweat it too much. Today’s eSIMs usually connect just fine.

If you’re worried about data throttling or running out of data, a Holafly eSIM can be a great fit for you. Other eSIMs can be cheaper, but the unlimited data—plus emergency wiggle room when you need it—make Holafly the choice when you just do not want to worry at all about your phone’s data.

A Holafly eSIM keeps your phone connected so you can connect with your destination

Jodie found her Holafly eSIM a reliable way to keep her phone online. And with unlimited data, she could also post to social media, work up navigation routes, order rideshares, and do everything she needed and wanted to do on her phone—with no worries about her connection getting slowed, or worse, running out of data and losing her connection entirely.

We’ve used a range of eSIMs around the world. Sometimes others fit our needs better than a Holafly. But when we need unlimited data, Holafly is right there. It’ll keep your phone connected, so you can connect with your destination.
