The Selkirk Loop proved ideal for our slow travel approach, allowing us to thoroughly explore each destination without rushing. We started in Newport, Washington, as our entry point and discovered that this route perfectly accommodates families seeking budget-friendly international travel experiences.
What are standout destinations along the route?
Sandpoint, Idaho became one of our favorite stops, offering outdoor adventures and family-friendly activities with stunning lake views. The town provides an excellent base for exploring the region’s natural beauty.
Kaslo, British Columbia impressed us with its authentic lakeside community atmosphere and local dining options that showcase regional flavors.
Crawford Bay stood out for its concentration of artisan workshops, including glassblowing and weaving studios where visitors can observe craftspeople at work.
Creston, British Columbia offered a unique cultural experience at an organic woman-owned dairy farm, providing hands-on learning opportunities about local agriculture.
Accessibility and adventure combined
One highlight was accessing Pee Wee Falls via kayak, demonstrating how the loop accommodates various adventure levels while remaining accessible for families.
