Simple ways you can customize a travel journal
It’s easy to think of a journal as just something to write in. A good travel journal can be a great way to record anything related to your trip, from thoughts and impressions to tracking what you spend.
However, a travel journal can also become a go-to way to record and store so many other little things about your trip, such as
- Photos
- Stickers
- Ticket stubs
- Ink stamps (especially in destinations such as Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia)
- Notes, images, and descriptions of your impressions, a record of the day, etc.
How to keep a travel journal
There are so many ways to keep a travel journal. The best journal to start with is the one you have. After all, you can always upgrade later as you get the hang of using your journal and as you get to know your personal journaling style.
One essential decision? Try out how you want to use your journal and how often you’ll add things to it.
For example, when we’re out and about, our journal is in Jodie’s purse or Anthony’s daypack. That way we can quickly get it out for adding stamps or simple quick-hit souvenirs such as stickers.
Our journal has a double pocket in the back, where we store things until we’re ready to add them to a page. At least twice a month, one of us sits down with the journal and adds more to it. We decorate pages, add design fun such as strips of washi tape, and note dates, details, or anything else that adds useful context to our memories.
The result? Our travel journal is the best souvenir we’ve ever gotten. It helps us store our memories, but more than that, our journal brings back the stories, sensations, and experiences that have meant so much to us with each destination and day.
