Understanding the Ann Arbor area
The heart of Ann Arbor is the central University of Michigan campus. However, the city’s small footprint means you don’t have to worry about a long drive. For example, if you were heading to the UofM campus but were staying at the Staybridge Suites Ann Arbor, just south of I-94, you’d still only be about 10 minutes from campus.
East of Route 23, Ypsilanti Township offers accommodation options as well. This area can be especially useful if your stay focuses on attractions such as the Michigan Flight Museum, on the eastern edge of town at Willow Run Airport.
Consistently top-rated stays for families in Ann Arbor
We especially enjoyed Ann Arbor not only for its history, culture, and campus (which also has a family connection: her grandfather is a UM alum). The city is easy to get around, and nothing is far. Whether restaurants, museums, and escape rooms in Ypsilanti, or botanical gardens, campus, and ice cream in Ann Arbor, we could enjoy our days without having to spend lots of time going from one place to another.
The options for where to stay in Ann Arbor make this even easier. Most stays cluster centrally, to the north, or to the south. Wherever you stay, though, you’re never far from where you want to be.

Weber’s Boutique Hotel

The joy of the historical Weber is balancing its design: rooms feel private, cozy, and set apart. Yet easy connections to corridors and spiral staircases to the pool deck just as easily have you feeling like you’re in your own mansion.
Plus, the Weber knows what it’s doing. Family-owned and operated since 1937, the staff at the Weber understand what visitors need and expect when they visit Ann Arbor. Bright common spaces, sumptuous furnishings, and a convenient location all combine to provide a comfortable stay.
Rooms surround a common, enclosed courtyard. Sometimes I’d head to a courtyard table to catch up on some work, while keeping an eye on my daughter while she splashed around at the indoor heated saltwater pool. After big days out, my wife and I also welcomed the chance to slip into the sauna and hot tub.
The on-site Weber’s Restaurant brings in historical touches, dark woodwork, and an effortless elegance. Our asparagus and brie omelets set us up for a big day of sightseeing, and we could imagine enjoying a drink or dinner in a place that could be stylish and luxurious without being stuffy.
Close to I-94 on the western edge of Ann Arbor, Weber’s is also only about a 10-minute drive to the heart of the UM campus.

Our visit to Ann Arbor had us visiting an escape room, learning about military and aviation history, and wandering the same campus where Jodie’s grandfather began his journey as a young lawyer. Wherever we wanted to go, we never had to drive far, and once we got where we wanted to base ourselves, we could enjoy getting around on foot.
